Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the purchase of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) to help stabilize wheat and flour prices across the province. She chaired a meeting via video link in Lahore on Tuesday to review the wheat supply situation and measures aimed at ensuring the availability of affordable flour for consumers.
Decision to Supply Wheat at Fixed Rate
During the meeting, it was decided that wheat would be supplied to flour mills at a rate of Rs3,300 per maund. The move is intended to keep flour and bread prices within reach of the public and prevent market volatility. The provincial government said the initiative would support efforts to maintain a stable supply of wheat and provide relief to consumers amid concerns over rising food prices.
Implementation and Monitoring
Officials briefed the chief minister on wheat stocks and the proposed distribution mechanism to ensure smooth implementation of the decision across Punjab. The government aims to curb any artificial price hikes and ensure that the benefits reach the common man. This step is part of broader efforts to manage inflation and ensure food security in the province.
