Punjab Expands Honhar Scholarship and Laptop Scheme

The Punjab government has decided to further expand the Honhar Scholarship Programme and Laptop Scheme to provide greater educational support to students across the province, according to official sources on Saturday.

Expansion of Honhar Scholarship Programme

A proposal is under consideration to increase the number of scholarships under the Honhar Scholarship Programme from 30,000 to 50,000 in the next fiscal year. This decision comes after an overwhelming response to the programme, which received around 150,000 applications. Authorities said the expansion aims to extend financial assistance to a larger number of deserving and high-achieving students.

Laptop Scheme Expansion

The government has also decided to broaden the scope of the Laptop Scheme. Under the proposed plan, 71,000 students will receive laptops in the next financial year, compared to 40,000 beneficiaries this year. Officials stated that a total of Rs75 billion would be spent on merit-based scholarship and laptop programmes.

The initiative is aimed at providing students with modern educational facilities, expanding access to higher education, and equipping youth with skills required in the digital age. The provincial government maintained that investment in education is vital for the future of the younger generation and the overall development of the province, adding that student welfare projects remain among its top priorities.
