Lewis Hamilton has faced renewed online scrutiny after a resurfaced podcast interview discussing wealth inequality gained attention amid his reported relationship with Kim Kardashian. The Formula 1 driver has been linked to Kardashian since the beginning of the year. The pair were first connected in January before being seen together at the Super Bowl in February. Since then, they have reportedly spent time together on several occasions, with Kardashian recently attending the Monaco Grand Prix alongside her sister, Khloé Kardashian.
Resurfaced Comments on Wealth Inequality
The renewed discussion centers on comments Hamilton made during a January 2023 appearance on Jay Shetty's podcast, On Purpose. In the interview, the seven-time world champion spoke about the gap between rich and poor and questioned the concentration of wealth among the world's richest individuals. Hamilton said, "One of the things I'm like, I struggle with every day, and it's just how life is, and it's been the way for thousands of years, that there's such a disparity between wealthy and the poor." He continued, "You shouldn't be able to have billions. Right? There should be a limit to how much you can have, because there's enough to go around for everyone, so somehow creating a law that creates more equality and equal access for everyone."
Social Media Backlash
The comments resurfaced on social media after reports of his relationship with Kardashian, whose business ventures and media career have contributed to an estimated fortune in the billions. Some online users questioned whether Hamilton's previous remarks aligned with his current personal life. One Reddit user shared the clip and wrote, "Baby, the call is coming from inside the houseeeee." Another commenter added, "Lol and he dates someone who's literally the opposite of that."
Despite the criticism, Hamilton recently spoke positively about Kardashian's support during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. The driver has not directly addressed the controversy surrounding his past statements.
