Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Rodolphe Haykal held a meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The two military leaders deliberated on the evolving regional security situation and explored avenues for enhanced defence cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Haykal was received at GHQ with a guard of honour presented by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent upon his arrival. During the meeting, both military leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including regional security dynamics, defence collaboration and prospects for strengthening bilateral military relations.
Focus on Professional Training and Institutional Linkages
The discussions primarily focused on expanding cooperation in professional training, institutional linkages and other areas of military-to-military engagement between the armed forces of Pakistan and Lebanon. Field Marshal Munir reiterated the importance Pakistan attaches to its longstanding and cordial relations with Lebanon and reaffirmed the Pakistan Army's commitment to further deepening defence cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Appreciation for Pakistan's Contributions
General Haykal appreciated the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional stability and international peacekeeping efforts. He commended the role of the Pakistan Army in maintaining peace and security in the region.
Shared Resolve for Enhanced Cooperation
The ISPR stated that the visit underscored the shared resolve of both sides to enhance military cooperation and strengthen institutional ties between the two armed forces. The meeting is seen as a significant step towards reinforcing bilateral defence relations and promoting mutual understanding on regional security challenges.
