Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Haji Fazal Elahi has claimed that a group of 35 to 40 dissident lawmakers exists within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, accusing the party leadership of failing to remain committed to the agenda of PTI founder Imran Khan. Elahi said the lawmakers were united on a single agenda: securing the release of the PTI founder. He alleged that the party leadership was not sincere in pursuing this objective.
The PTI lawmaker said the group comprises between 35 and 40 MPAs who are “on the same page” regarding the party’s future direction and priorities. Elahi also criticized the functioning of the provincial government led by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying lawmakers had expected a governance system in which ministers' directives would be respected by the bureaucracy. Calling for a nationwide PTI convention involving lawmakers and senators, he said participants should reaffirm their commitment to the party founder’s cause.
He further revealed that the dissident lawmakers had informed the chief minister that they would attend the upcoming budget session only after a party convention is held and a date for it is announced. The development highlights growing internal dissent within PTI amid the detention of its founder.
