SHC Grants Protective Bail to SSP Accused in Gutka Trade Case
SHC Grants Protective Bail to SSP Sanghar in Gutka Case

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted protective bail to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanghar Abid Ali, who is accused of involvement in the illegal Gutka and Mawa supply trade. A bench of the high court issued the bail order on Tuesday and directed the officer to appear before the relevant trial court within two weeks. The court also ordered him to submit surety bonds of Rs10,000.

Allegations and Legal Proceedings

The SSP and other accused are alleged to be involved in the supply and trade of Gutka, Mawa, and other harmful substances. In a related development, the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) had earlier dismissed a petition seeking to lift the ban on Gutka. During those proceedings, the court observed that Gutka poses severe health risks, noting it is highly harmful, even more dangerous than cigarettes, and a major cause of oral cancer.

Health Concerns and Ban Enforcement

The court reaffirmed concerns over the public health impact of such products, underscoring the continued enforcement of the ban. The protective bail allows SSP Abid Ali temporary relief while he cooperates with the judicial process.
