The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (EGB) has ordered a re-poll at a women's polling station in constituency GBA-15 after declaring the initial vote null and void due to disturbances that disrupted the polling process during the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections.
Disturbances at Loshi Thak Women's Polling Station
According to an official notification, polling at the Loshi Thak women's polling station was severely affected by stone-pelting, gunfire, and a deteriorating law-and-order situation. These incidents prevented a significant number of registered female voters from casting their ballots. The commission noted that although approximately 200 votes were cast, many eligible voters were unable to exercise their right to vote because of the unrest. Polling staff were subsequently evacuated from the station under security arrangements.
Re-polling Scheduled for June 15
In light of these circumstances, the EGB declared the polling process at the station void and announced that re-polling would take place on June 15 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM without any break. The commission stated that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure that the re-polling is conducted in a transparent, fair, and lawful manner. It added that the returning officer for GBA-15 would personally oversee the polling arrangements.
