PHF and PARCO Sign Rs100 Million Hockey Partnership

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Pakistan Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) have signed a landmark cooperation agreement worth Rs100 million aimed at strengthening coaching education, grassroots development and hockey activities across the country.

Details of the Partnership

The two-year partnership was formalised at a ceremony attended by PHF President Mohyuddin Wani, PARCO Managing Director Irtiza Qureshi, Secretary Petroleum Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh, senior officials from both organisations and members of the Pakistan Under-21 hockey team currently undergoing training. Under the agreement, PARCO will provide financial assistance for coaching education programmes, coach development initiatives and nationwide hockey activities. The funding will also support stipends for coaches participating in the PHF’s coaching framework, helping to create a more structured and sustainable development system.

PHF President's Vision

Describing the agreement as a major step forward, PHF President Mohyuddin Wani said the federation was committed to rebuilding Pakistan hockey through practical and long-term measures. “We are focused on the development and revival of hockey through a comprehensive coaching structure. A nationwide coaches’ education programme will soon be launched to raise coaching standards in line with modern international requirements,” Wani said. He emphasised that developing qualified coaches was essential for producing future generations of players and strengthening the game at the grassroots level. Wani thanked PARCO and the Ministry of Petroleum for supporting the national sport, expressing confidence that the partnership would contribute significantly to restoring Pakistan hockey’s competitiveness at both domestic and international levels.

Government Support

Secretary Petroleum Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh termed the initiative an investment in a national cause and said he hoped the collaboration would help Pakistan regain its standing among the world’s leading hockey nations. Speaking to the media after the signing ceremony, Wani said the federation was simultaneously working on improving player development and international exposure. He noted that the national team had been provided high-quality preparation for upcoming international assignments, including the FIH Pro League and the Hockey World Cup.

Future Plans

The PHF chief also revealed that efforts are underway to bring South Korea’s national hockey team to Pakistan for a series of matches against the country’s senior and junior sides. The proposed tour, he said, would provide valuable international competition and help players prepare for major events on the global calendar.
