Group Captain Asim Tariq of the Pakistan Air Force was shot dead on Sunday evening while attempting to rescue a woman near Shaheen Chowk on Ninth Avenue, within the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station, Islamabad. According to initial police reports, the officer was passing through the area when he noticed a woman who had dismounted a motorcycle while the rider was allegedly pulling her by the hand.
Intervention and Shooting
Acting as a responsible citizen, Group Captain Asim turned back and stopped near the motorcycle. The woman then ran to the other side of his vehicle for safety. During the confrontation, the alleged suspect, identified as Saad, exchanged harsh words with the officer before opening fire on him. Group Captain Asim later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, while the suspect fled the scene.
Woman's Account
Police sources said the woman stated that the suspect was her colleague who had offered to take her to work but allegedly changed the route and attempted to take her elsewhere, leading to a struggle. Group Captain Asim intervened in time and ensured her safety, but paid the ultimate price.
Manhunt and Tributes
Law enforcement agencies are conducting operations to arrest the suspect. Group Captain Asim is survived by his widow, a daughter, and a son. His sacrifice has been widely acknowledged across the country, with national and social media remembering him as a courageous officer who gave his life to protect a woman.
