Saudi Masam Project Clears 2,164 Explosives in Yemen

The Saudi-led Masam project successfully cleared 2,164 explosive devices from various regions in Yemen during the last week, according to a recent report. The cleared items included 2,072 unexploded ordnances, 81 anti-tank mines, six anti-personnel mines, and five improvised explosive devices.

Threat to Civilians

These explosives were planted indiscriminately across the country, posing a significant threat to civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly. The demining operations were conducted in the governorates of Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada.

Total Mines Cleared Since 2018

Since the launch of the Masam project in 2018, a total of 571,125 mines and explosive devices have been cleared from Yemeni soil. The project's teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads, and schools to ensure the safe movement of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Training and Support

In addition to clearance operations, the Masam project trains local demining engineers, provides them with modern equipment, and offers support to Yemenis who have been injured by explosive devices.
