The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested five individuals, including three Chinese nationals, during a raid in Sector F-7 of Islamabad for their alleged involvement in the illegal trade of human organs. The operation was conducted jointly by the FIA Islamabad Zone and the Human Organs Transplant Authority (HOTA).
Recovery of Human Placenta
According to details, a large quantity of human placenta was recovered from the premises. The seized stocks included fresh, dried, and processed placenta. The suspects were found to be obtaining human placenta from local hospitals in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
Mislabeling and Export
The processed placenta was allegedly mislabeled and shipped abroad. The suspects reportedly exported the placenta by declaring it as sheep organs. An official of the agency stated that investigations uncovered that the placenta was being exported to Vietnam, where it was allegedly used in the manufacture of medicines.
Network and Investigation
The suspects had established a network with the help of local facilitators. The FIA also seized processing materials from the site. The recovered samples have been sent to the Pakistan Institute for Medical Sciences for medical examination. Further investigations into the human organ trade case are underway, the official added.
