Sindh PAC Recovers Rs 33 Billion in Two Years

The Sindh Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has successfully recovered a staggering Rs 33 billion from various federal and provincial departments, depositing the amount into the provincial exchequer during the period from July 2024 to June 2026. The announcement was made by PAC Chairman Nisar Khuhro on Tuesday, who released data detailing the committee's achievements over the two-year span.

Committee's Efforts and Achievements

According to the data, the PAC held 188 record meetings and successfully settled 787 audit paras pertaining to different government departments. This rigorous oversight has led to significant financial recoveries, underscoring the committee's commitment to accountability.

Khuhro elaborated on the recoveries, stating that Rs 11.904 billion were recovered on account of electricity duty collected from consumers. Additionally, Rs 34.12594 billion in outstanding water charges were recovered from various federal and provincial institutions that had defaulted on payments to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

Breakdown of Recovered Amounts

Furthermore, a whopping Rs 10 billion was recovered from multiple government departments. Khuhro emphasized that the committee would not turn a blind eye to any embezzlement of public funds, signaling a zero-tolerance policy towards financial mismanagement.

The recoveries highlight the PAC's effectiveness in ensuring that public funds are properly accounted for and that defaulting departments are held responsible. The committee's work has directly contributed to strengthening the provincial exchequer, which can now be utilized for developmental projects and public welfare.
