Customs Destroy Rs800 Million in Smuggled Goods at Islamabad Dry Port

The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad destroyed confiscated smuggled goods valued at approximately Rs800 million on Tuesday after fulfilling all legal formalities under relevant provisions of the law. The destruction ceremony took place at the Islamabad Dry Port, where officials disposed of contraband including liquor, mobile phones, cigarettes, food items, and other prohibited articles.

Chief Collector Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy

Basit Maqsood Abbasi, Chief Collector of Customs (Enforcement), attended as chief guest and reiterated that Pakistan Customs maintains a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling. He stated that the department continues to conduct vigorous anti-smuggling operations nationwide to curb illegal movement of goods. Abbasi noted that smuggling causes substantial losses to the national exchequer and undermines legitimate businesses, local industry, and the overall economy.

Commitment to Strengthen Border Controls

The chief collector emphasized that Pakistan Customs remains fully committed to strengthening border controls, enhancing intelligence-driven enforcement, and ensuring effective implementation of customs laws. He affirmed that no effort would be spared in dismantling smuggling networks and bringing those involved in illicit trade to justice. Abbasi also appreciated the Collectorate’s successful enforcement efforts and encouraged officers to continue discharging their responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and professionalism.

Rizwan Salabat, Collector of Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad, reaffirmed the Collectorate’s unwavering commitment to eliminating smuggling within its jurisdiction. He stated that the Collectorate is intensifying intelligence-led operations, strengthening coordination with other law enforcement agencies, and enhancing surveillance to counter smuggling activities effectively. Salabat emphasized that the Collectorate would continue to pursue a zero-tolerance approach and take strict legal action against those involved in illicit trade.

The ceremony concluded with the destruction of the confiscated goods, reflecting Pakistan Customs’ firm resolve to enforce customs laws, safeguard the national economy, and combat smuggling through sustained and effective enforcement measures.
