Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab led a high-level delegation of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore on Wednesday, aiming to foster collaboration and exchange best practices in water management and infrastructure development.
Delegation Composition and Purpose
The KWSC delegation included senior officials and technical experts, who were received by WASA Lahore Managing Director and other key personnel. The visit focused on exploring avenues for technical cooperation, improving water supply systems, and addressing common challenges faced by both cities.
Discussions on Water Management
During the meeting, both sides discussed strategies for reducing water losses, enhancing revenue collection, and upgrading aging infrastructure. Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of inter-city collaboration to tackle water scarcity and ensure sustainable water supply for growing urban populations.
The delegation toured WASA's treatment plants and control rooms, observing advanced technologies in water distribution and leakage detection. WASA Lahore officials shared insights on their successful models for water conservation and public-private partnerships.
Future Collaboration Plans
Mayor Wahab stated that Karachi could benefit from Lahore's experience in water management, particularly in areas such as smart metering and consumer grievance redressal. He proposed regular exchanges of technical teams and joint training programs for staff.
WASA Lahore officials expressed willingness to cooperate and offered to provide technical assistance to KWSC for ongoing projects. Both parties agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to formalize the collaboration in the coming weeks.
The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two cities and improving water services for millions of residents.
