Britain on Friday announced that a full ban on diesel and jet fuel made in Russia will be implemented by 2027, as it outlined the timeline to end a temporary license for Russian oil products.
Timeline for the Ban
The government said the temporary license for phasing in the ban would expire by January 1, 2027. The business and trade ministry confirmed that existing sanctions are not being lifted, but new sanctions are being phased in gradually.
Background and Supply Issues
Last month, Britain said it would continue to allow imports of diesel and jet fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries, deferring a previously announced ban due to supply issues caused by the Iran war. The government emphasized that it would review the license every two weeks, with a view to lifting it as soon as possible.
The move is part of ongoing sanctions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, aiming to reduce dependence on Russian energy products.
