The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Thursday that it is closely monitoring internet services following a fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable. The authority warned that users may experience intermittent degradation in service quality and connectivity as a result of the fault.
Fault Details and Coordination
The PTA noted that Transworld Associates (TWA) is coordinating with the SMW5 consortium to identify the root cause of the fault and determine the estimated time for restoration. According to the PTA, TWA is the only private-sector operator in Pakistan with exclusive ownership of submarine fibre-optic cable systems.
Impact on Internet Users
The fault has raised concerns among internet users, particularly those reliant on high-speed connectivity for business, education, and communication. The PTA assured that it is working to minimize disruptions and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
