KP Textbook Board Seals Bookshop in Peshawar Over Illegal Sale of Free Textbooks
In a decisive move to curb the unlawful trade of educational materials, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board (KPTB) conducted a targeted operation on Thursday, sealing a private bookshop in Peshawar's Hashtnagri area. The action was taken against the illegal sale of government-issued textbooks that bear the clear inscription "Not for Sale", which are intended for free distribution to students under state-funded schemes.
Official Directive and Coordination
The crackdown was initiated on the directives of KPTB Chairman Abidullah Kakakhel and executed under the supervision of Secretary Dr. Zainullah Garwaki. The operation was coordinated with the Assistant Commissioner of Peshawar, ensuring a swift and effective response. During the raid, officials targeted Abdullah Book Agency, where it was alleged that textbooks meant for free provision to eligible students were being commercially offered for sale.
Seizure and Legal Proceedings
Authorities confiscated the entire stock of textbooks found on the premises, immediately sealing the shop to prevent further illegal activities. In a stern warning, officials announced that instructions have been issued for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the shop owner, identified as Abdullah. The Board emphasized that this action is part of a broader effort to combat the commercialization of state-funded educational resources.
Board's Stance and Future Measures
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board reiterated its firm stance that textbooks supplied under government initiatives are provided free of charge to students, and any attempt to sell them constitutes a serious legal violation. Authorities warned that further inspections will be conducted across the region, with strict legal action to be taken against individuals involved in such unlawful practices. This crackdown aims to protect the integrity of educational support systems and ensure that resources reach their intended beneficiaries without exploitation.
