Actress Bijou Phillips Hospitalized, Urgently Seeks Living Kidney Donor
In a heartfelt and urgent appeal, actress Bijou Phillips has revealed she is currently hospitalized and undergoing dialysis as she searches for a living kidney donor. The 45-year-old star shared her plea on Instagram on February 11, detailing the critical nature of her health situation and its profound impact on her life and family.
A Mother's Desperate Plea for Help
Phillips posted a message on social media, writing, "I need help finding a kidney. I'm asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and most important, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter." She referred to her 11-year-old daughter Fianna, whom she shares with her ex-husband, actor Danny Masterson. The actress emphasized that time is of the essence in her search for a compatible donor.
Lifelong Health Struggles and Past Transplant
Born with underdeveloped kidneys, Phillips spent the first three months of her life in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) on dialysis. In 2017, she received a kidney transplant from a dear friend, which granted her eight precious years to be a mother to her daughter. However, complications have since arisen, leading to her current hospitalization.
Phillips explained that the BK virus, a latent virus reactivated by anti-rejection medication, caused both cellular and antibody rejection in her first transplant. "That transplant gave me 8 precious years to be a mother to my daughter—but I have had many complications since," she wrote, highlighting the ongoing challenges she faces.
Current Medical Care and Donor Search
The actress is under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at UCLA Medical Center and is actively seeking a compatible living donor. She encouraged potential donors to apply via a link in her Instagram bio, stressing the urgency of her situation. Her representative confirmed that Phillips has been privately managing dialysis while maintaining a vegan diet and a low-stress lifestyle to support her health.
Gratitude and Hope for the Future
In her message, Phillips expressed deep gratitude for any support and underscored the importance of finding a donor to continue spending time with her daughter, family, and friends. Her story sheds light on the critical need for organ donation and the personal battles faced by those with chronic health conditions.
As the search continues, Phillips remains hopeful that a suitable donor will come forward, allowing her to overcome this health crisis and focus on her role as a devoted mother.
