LOS ANGELES - After the massive success of Curry Barker’s psychological horror Obsession, the filmmaker has once again joined hands with Universal and closed a “rich eight-figure deal” for his next project. Curry has become a Hollywood celebrity from indie filmmaker after his film grossed almost $300 million worldwide and even shaded high-budgeted films like The Mandalorian And Grogu. As Obsession continues to draw audiences, the 26-year-old YouTuber-turned-director signed his third film with Universal and Blumhouse, which he will write, direct and produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

A statement by NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley read, “Curry Barker has an exceptional ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, pairing an innate instinct for what resonates with audiences with extraordinary filmmaking prowess. Barker’s talent is redefining what’s possible and we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with him.”

Though the details of the new project are not revealed yet, Curry shared the central idea of the horror movie he pitched to top brass at Universal. “This film is something I’ve been excited to make for a while, and I’m thrilled to be reteaming with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Film Group for it. They’ve built the kind of home for bold, original storytelling that every filmmaker dreams of, and I couldn’t imagine better collaborators for this film.”
