Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met Ms Jennifer Scott, Director of Rotary International, at the Governor’s House in Karachi. During the meeting, he called on the international community to play an effective role in ensuring full implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and adherence to international obligations.
Discussion on Mutual Interests
The meeting featured a detailed discussion on matters of mutual interest, including public welfare, healthcare, education, clean water, community development, the promotion of peace, and the Indus Waters Treaty. The Governor stated that water aggression by the neighbouring country constitutes not only a serious threat to regional peace and stability but also a blatant violation of international laws and treaties.
Indus Waters Treaty as an International Agreement
He emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty is an international agreement that cannot be suspended or terminated unilaterally by any country. The Governor said that using water, an essential resource, as a tool of political pressure or conflict could pose grave risks to peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
Pakistan’s Commitment to Peace
He further stated that Pakistan has always remained committed to the principles of peace, dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. He added that the prudent leadership of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Field Marshal in promoting regional peace and stability has been widely appreciated internationally. He said Pakistan will continue its responsible efforts to promote lasting peace, shared prosperity, and constructive international cooperation.
Rotary International’s Initiatives
During the meeting, Rotary International gave a comprehensive briefing on its initiatives related to peacebuilding, clean water, healthcare, education, community development, and humanitarian projects. The Governor observed that effective collaboration between the government and social organizations could significantly expand the reach and impact of public welfare initiatives.

Appreciating Rotary International’s services in the fields of peace, education, healthcare, and public welfare, the Governor said that such organizations play a vital role in promoting social development, harmony, and humanitarian service. He assured the government’s continued support and cooperation.
