The National Assembly (NA) in Friday's sitting passed a resolution recognizing that Pakistan's sincere and tireless efforts for the US-Iran peace agreement have positioned the country as a trusted neutral mediator on the global stage. The lawmakers lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the entire team engaged in the negotiation process.
Resolution Details
The resolution, moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, noted with immense satisfaction and pride the landmark diplomatic breakthrough involving the cessation of hostilities and the signing of an agreement for peace and stability between the United States and Iran. The members congratulated and appreciated the leadership of both nations for signing the historic peace deal.
Prime Minister's Remarks
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proudly remarked that Pakistan's name resonates around the world with respect and dignity for playing a positive role between the two countries. He suggested the house pass a resolution on this great diplomatic achievement to send a message of solidarity to the world. He recognized the role played by the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for reaching the peace agreement. 'The prestige and honour, Allah Almighty bestowed upon Pakistan today, is something that nations seek for centuries,' he said.
Fuel Price Reduction
Regarding the price of petroleum products, the Prime Minister promised to provide relief to the masses by reducing prices. Approximately five hours after his commitment, he announced a reduction in petrol prices by 74 rupees per liter and diesel by 67 rupees per liter.
Budget Debate
Although the budget debate was overshadowed by the resolution passed by lawmakers, some members from the treasury benches offered mixed reactions to the budgetary proposals. Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf expressed dissatisfaction with the raise given to government servants. 'As do I think, this is not sufficient raise for the salaried class person,' he said, adding that it should be raised to ten percent before passing the budget. He proposed that investment from overseas Pakistanis should be encouraged, stating it would help create job opportunities in the country.
Government Response
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, in response to the opposition parties' proposals, claimed that the government, given the current situation and resources, has presented the best possible finance bill. 'I am thankful to the opposition and coalition partners for their valuable input in the budget discussion,' he said. Regarding remarks by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar about accepting dialogue with the government, the minister informed that a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition would soon be held to resolve the issues.
Additional Note
The Supreme Court observed that a judge with a tarnished reputation cannot serve.
