Amir Muqam: AJK Protests Need Dialogue and Elections

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam on Saturday stated that the ongoing protests, sit-ins, and disruption of normal life in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) can only be resolved through dialogue and the democratic process.

Government Position on AJK Protests

Speaking on the situation in AJK, the minister said the government had made it clear to the action committee that their demands relate to matters falling within the jurisdiction of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Parliament. He urged stakeholders to participate in elections and seek a public mandate, adding that elected representatives have the authority to make decisions regarding the future of the people.

Call for Elections and Public Mandate

“The solution lies in elections and the will of the people. Dialogue remains the only way forward,” the minister said. His remarks come amid ongoing protests in the region, with demonstrators demanding various political and economic reforms. The minister emphasized that only through democratic processes can lasting solutions be achieved.
