The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a resident of Ghotki for impersonating a National Assembly official using a forged appointment letter, the National Assembly Secretariat announced on Wednesday.
Arrest on Speaker's Orders
Acting on the directives of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the FIA apprehended the suspect, identified as Abdul Wajid, from within the Parliament premises. The Speaker ordered immediate action after receiving public complaints and noticing reports on social media regarding the impersonation.
Fake Grade 17 Officer Status
Abdul Wajid had been presenting himself as a Grade 17 officer of the National Assembly Secretariat. According to the Secretariat's official statement, he possessed a fake appointment letter that bore a forged signature of the Speaker. Using this fabricated document, he allegedly misled government officials and police authorities to obtain undue privileges and protocol.
Harassment and Public Concern
The statement further revealed that the individual was reportedly involved in harassing and pressuring citizens through various means, causing concern and unrest among the public. The Secretariat's spokesperson declared that the preparation of forged documents bearing a speaker's signature and impersonating a government official was a 'serious and punishable offence'. The spokesperson added that strict legal action would be taken against such elements without discrimination.
Legal Action Underway
Abdul Wajid had no connection with the National Assembly institution, yet he had been illegally obtaining privileges and protocol. The FIA is now investigating the case, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow. The National Assembly Secretariat reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the institution and ensuring that such fraudulent activities are dealt with severely.
