Suspect Dies in Custody at Mian Chanu Police Station
An inquiry has been initiated following the death of a murder suspect while in police custody at the Mian Chanu Saddar police station. The deceased was booked under case No. 611/26, Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, for the alleged murder of his wife using knife blows. He was under detention when he suddenly fell ill.
Police personnel immediately shifted the suspect to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for emergency medical care. However, doctors could not save him despite their efforts. According to an initial report, the suspect died of a heart attack. The exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report and further inquiry.
Inquiry Committee Formed
District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Abid confirmed that an inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident. The committee is headed by SP Investigation Shahid Rasheed. DPO Abid stated, "A transparent, impartial, and merit-based inquiry into the incident has begun. All aspects are being examined closely, and action is being taken in accordance with the law."
Background of the Case
The suspect was arrested for allegedly killing his wife with multiple knife blows. The case was registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to premeditated murder. The suspect was in police custody at the time of his sudden illness and subsequent death.
Post-Mortem and Further Investigation
Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death. The inquiry committee will also examine whether any negligence or misconduct occurred during the suspect's detention. DPO Abid emphasized that the investigation will be thorough and transparent.
In a separate development, a grant of Rs570 million has been approved for the restoration of infrastructure in small industrial estates. However, no connection has been established between this grant and the death in custody.
