A suspected criminal was arrested after sustaining injuries in an alleged police encounter near Hasan Chowk, behind Beconhouse School, within the limits of Gulgasht police station in Multan on Saturday.
Incident Details
According to police officials, they signaled three motorcyclists to stop during a late-night patrol. However, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory firing. As a result, one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Dilawar, resident of Muhammadpur Ghotta in Qasim Bela, sustained bullet injuries and was taken into custody. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Escape and Criminal Background
The two other suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Police claimed that the arrested suspect was wanted in several cases of robbery, theft, and other street crimes. Separate teams have been constituted to arrest the absconding suspects, while further investigation is underway.
Additional Context
In a separate development, a grant of Rs570 million has been approved for the restoration of infrastructure for a small industrial estate. However, no direct link between this grant and the encounter has been established.
