Scottish authorities have charged a 36-year-old white Scottish man in connection with a series of attacks in Edinburgh that left five men wounded, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stating the suspect “appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.” Police Scotland confirmed there is no further threat to the public.
Arrest and Charges
Police Scotland announced late Saturday that a man had been charged in connection with multiple incidents that occurred in Edinburgh on Friday, 19 June 2026. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, and the individual is expected to appear in court in due course.
Footage posted online showed a bare-chested man, believed to be the suspect, roaming streets of the Scottish capital wielding a large weapon. Police received multiple emergency calls late Friday reporting violent attacks including threats, robbery, and vandalism across Edinburgh.
Victims and Injuries
Five men were injured in the attacks: two aged 22, and others aged 24, 27, and 39. Three of the victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is being investigated by the counter-terrorism unit and other police officers.
Political Condemnation
Politicians in London and Scotland condemned the incidents. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X: “Absolutely appalling. The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. I will not tolerate this — he will face the full force of the law.” Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney expressed he was “deeply concerned” in a post on X.
