High-Level Meeting in Tehran
Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in Tehran on Saturday. The meeting focused on a comprehensive exchange of views on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, regional peace and stability, challenges facing the Muslim Ummah, and the promotion of global peace, according to a statement issued by the Senate Secretariat.
Condolences and Solidarity
Chairman Senate expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Government, Parliament, and people of Iran on the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the brotherly nation during this difficult time and stated that peace, stability and prosperity were essential for lasting peace and development across the region. Gilani emphasized that Pakistan and Iran were bound by deep-rooted historical, religious, cultural and fraternal ties, which should be further strengthened through enhanced cooperation.
Call for Enhanced Cooperation
Gilani underscored the importance of expanding parliamentary exchanges, economic collaboration, trade and people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He noted that such engagement would contribute to regional stability and development.
Iranian Speaker Appreciates Pakistan’s Support
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf appreciated Pakistan’s “steadfast” support and solidarity during Iran’s difficult times. He remarked that Pakistan had consistently proven to be a sincere and reliable friend of Iran in times of trial and that the Iranian leadership and people held Pakistan and its people in the highest esteem.
Commitment to Regional Peace
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and enhancing cooperation for regional peace, stability, prosperity and the promotion of global peace through sustained bilateral engagement.
