KP dispatches monsoon relief supplies to 27 districts

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced on Monday that it has dispatched emergency relief supplies to 27 districts across the province in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The move aims to enable a swift response to potential flash floods, landslides, and other rain-related incidents that typically occur between late June and early September.

Relief supplies dispatched to vulnerable districts

A total of 61 trucks have delivered relief items to district administrations, ensuring that aid can be provided immediately in the event of natural disasters. Precautionary measures and public appeal

According to the PDMA, pre-positioning relief supplies in sensitive districts is critical for effective emergency operations. All district administrations have been directed to maintain full preparedness for the safety, availability, and immediate distribution of relief items if required. The authority also appealed to the public to take precautionary measures during the monsoon, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow instructions from the PDMA and district administrations in any emergency.

Pakistan's monsoon season has historically caused severe devastation. In 2022, catastrophic floods killed over 1,700 people and affected more than 33 million. Last year, monsoon flooding claimed at least 1,000 lives. Recent weeks have seen untimely heavy rains and storms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, resulting in over 20 deaths. Additionally, torrential rains in late March and early April killed 80 people across the country.
