PTI protests for Imran Khan's release and medical care

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan announced that the Insaf Doctors Forum, along with all subsidiary wings of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have launched street protests demanding the immediate release of PTI founder Chairman Imran Khan and proper medical treatment for him and his wife Bushra Bibi.

Press Conference Highlights

Addressing a press conference organized by the Insaf Doctors Forum, Shafi Jan, accompanied by Health Minister Mian Khaliqur Rehman, stated that the party has delegated the authority to decide the future course of the protest movement to Mahmood Khan Achakzai. "Whenever he issues orders, whether to block roads or launch a long march, we will fully support him," Shafi Jan declared.

Allegations of Denied Healthcare

The minister claimed that Imran Khan and his wife are being punished for fighting for the rights of the people, which is why they are being denied proper healthcare facilities. He revealed that Imran Khan has been suffering from an eye ailment for the past four months, with one eye still not fully recovered. Despite this, he has not been allowed access to his personal physicians, nor has the government provided authentic information to the public about his health condition. "We demand that the government immediately shift former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ailing wife Bushra Bibi to Shaafa International Hospital for complete medical treatment," he said.

Criticism of Government Policies

Shafi Jan criticized the government's economic policies, pointing out that while the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, Pakistan's rulers chose the occasion to increase petrol prices overnight, "looting the pockets of the people and benefiting a select few." He drew a comparison with the treatment meted out to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during PTI's tenure, stating that even though Nawaz Sharif was imprisoned, he was provided all facilities. Around 150 people visited him daily, Maryam was allowed regular meetings, and her barrack was located near his.
