In a significant push to improve administration and public service, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has conducted a major review of its ongoing governance initiatives. The weekly review meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah on Monday, brought together relevant administrative secretaries and senior officers to assess progress across multiple sectors.
Crackdown on Encroachments and Urban Revival
The meeting received a detailed briefing on the province-wide campaign against illegal occupations of state land. Authorities have identified a total of 1,335 illegal structures built on government property. So far, 818 of these encroachments have been removed in indiscriminate operations, with action against the remaining structures currently in progress.
Focus was also placed on projects designed to restore the glory of Peshawar. Rehabilitation and beautification work on the Ring Road and GT Road is advancing rapidly. Furthermore, the Peshawar Ring Road missing link and the New General Bus Stand projects are also moving swiftly towards completion.
Infrastructure and Environmental Safeguards
In the energy sector, the implementation of the Dasu Transmission Line project, linked to the Dasu Hydropower Project, has been expedited. This project is deemed vital for meeting growing energy demands, boosting economic development, and providing affordable electricity to consumers.
To protect the environment at tourist destinations, the government is ensuring hotels and restaurants comply with regulations. Out of 535 hotels and restaurants inspected, 474 have upgraded their sewerage systems. The rest have been instructed to make the necessary improvements within a set deadline. Strict implementation of land use regulations and master planning at tourist spots is also underway.
The meeting also reviewed work on establishing a modern solid waste management system for Peshawar, with various measures being taken to modernize the city’s sanitation infrastructure.
Digital Push and Market Monitoring
Emphasizing transparency, the meeting was informed that the provincial government’s cashless system, e-registration, and other digital initiatives will enhance governance and provide better services to citizens.
A detailed review of essential commodity price control was conducted. Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah directed district administrations to hold regular price fixation and monitoring meetings and to continue rigorous market inspections. The government has intensified action against profiteers and hoarders.
Concluding the meeting, Chief Secretary Shah reiterated the provincial government's commitment to public welfare, transparent governance, and the rule of law. He directed concerned officers to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing projects and to prioritize public interest in every decision.
