The Sindh government has appointed a prominent cultural figure to a key academic body, recognizing his extensive contributions to the arts. President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, has been nominated as a member of the Senate of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL).
A Prestigious Nomination by the Chief Minister
This significant appointment was made by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. According to an official press release, the nomination is for a three-year term and is executed under the authority of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law Act, 2013. This move places a seasoned advocate for culture at the heart of a premier legal education institution.
Profile of a Cultural Ambassador
Mohammad Ahmed Shah is not a new name in the spheres of art and culture. His work has been instrumental in promoting fine arts, literature, theatre, music, and dance both within Pakistan and on international platforms. A landmark achievement under his leadership was the World Culture Festival held last year at the Arts Council in Karachi, which saw participation from artists representing more than 140 countries.
This global gathering significantly enhanced Pakistan's cultural diplomacy and exchange. Beyond this, Shah has a proven track record of organizing major events that have become staples of Pakistan's cultural calendar. These include the renowned International Urdu Conference, the Pakistan Literature Festival, and numerous festivals dedicated to theatre, dance, and music.
Bridging Culture, Governance, and Education
Mohammad Ahmed Shah also brings valuable governmental experience to his new role. In 2023, he served the Government of Sindh as the Minister for Information, Minority Affairs, and Social Protection. This blend of high-level administrative experience and deep cultural expertise is expected to bring a unique and valuable perspective to the SZABUL Senate.
His nomination is seen as a step towards enriching the academic governance of the university with insights from the world of arts and public service, potentially fostering a more holistic educational environment.
