Two friends shot dead in Rawalpindi home; police investigate

RAWALPINDI: Two friends were shot dead by unidentified assailants inside a house in Dhoke Mai Saroor, within the jurisdiction of Chaklala Police Station, on Sunday night, police said. The victims were identified as Ghazanfar Azam and his friend Najeeb-ur-Rehman. Both died at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

FIR Details

According to the First Information Report (FIR), lodged by Mahboob Anwar, a resident of Ajmeri Mohallah, Chaklala, and the younger brother of the deceased Ghazanfar Azam, he was at his home at around 9:20pm when a relative, Imtiaz Ahmad, telephoned him and informed him that gunfire had erupted at his brother’s residence. The complainant stated that he immediately rushed to the house, where he found several residents gathered outside. Upon entering the premises, he discovered his brother lying in a pool of blood near the entrance gate. Nearby, Najeeb-ur-Rehman was also found fatally wounded.

The FIR further stated that Najeeb’s brother, Muhammad Ajmal, and his cousin, Shakeel, were present at the scene following the incident. Mahboob Anwar told police that neither his brother nor Najeeb-ur-Rehman was known to have any personal enmity or ongoing dispute. He alleged that unknown assailants opened fire on the two men for reasons yet to be established, killing them on the spot before fleeing.

Police Action

Police registered a murder case against unidentified suspects and launched an investigation. City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the double homicide and directed the area superintendent of police to personally supervise the investigation and ensure the early arrest of those responsible. Investigators are collecting evidence from the crime scene and examining possible motives behind the attack.

Train Accident

Meanwhile, a 63-year-old man was killed after being struck by a train near Rawalpindi Railway Station early on Monday morning, railway police said. The deceased was identified as Gul Nawaz, a resident of Farooq-e-Azam Colony on Dhamial Road. According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:05am near the Lahore-side end of Platform No. 3, where the victim was hit by a passing train and died instantly. Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the body to Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital in Raja Bazaar for a post-mortem examination. Railway police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
