Vehari District Administration Unveils Comprehensive Development and Regulatory Drive

The district administration of Vehari has launched a multi-faceted initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure, ensuring public safety, and stimulating economic growth across the region. Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya, several key projects and enforcement actions are being implemented to transform the district's landscape and address critical issues.

Punjab's First Dust-Free Road Project Takes Shape

One of the flagship endeavors is the ambitious upgrade of the Vehari–Multan Road, which is set to become Punjab's inaugural dust-free thoroughfare. During an inspection visit, Deputy Commissioner Goraya received a detailed briefing from XEN Highway Rana Umair Latif regarding the ongoing construction activities. The project, being executed under the guidance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizes quality, transparency, and the integration of modern amenities.

Key directives issued by the Deputy Commissioner include:

  • Accelerating tile installation along the stretch from V-Chowk to Khanewal Chowk to improve road durability and aesthetics.
  • Developing green belts and walking tracks to promote environmental sustainability and public recreation.
  • Preparing feasibility reports for the construction of public toilets to enhance civic facilities.
  • Installing new streetlights and shifting overhead wiring underground to boost safety and visual appeal.

Additionally, the project will incorporate essential infrastructure such as drainage lines, waiting sheds, extensive plantation efforts, and groundwater recharge wells, ensuring a holistic approach to urban development.

Crackdown on Illegal LPG Decanting Operations

In a move to safeguard public safety, the administration has intensified efforts against illegal LPG decanting, particularly in Burewala tehsil. Under the Deputy Commissioner's directives, the Civil Defence Department conducted targeted operations, resulting in the seizure of unauthorized equipment and the registration of three First Information Reports (FIRs).

Civil Defence Officer Muhammad Rehan Waraich highlighted the severe dangers associated with this illicit practice, noting that it poses significant risks to both life and property. The crackdown underscores the administration's commitment to enforcing regulations and preventing hazardous activities within the district.

Accelerating Punjab Development Program Projects

Deputy Commissioner Goraya also chaired a review meeting for the Punjab Development Program, focusing on expediting mega municipal projects across Vehari, Burewala, and Mailsi. With a total allocation exceeding Rs. 21.5 billion, these initiatives are designed to address critical urban needs and improve living standards.

The comprehensive work encompasses:

  1. Laying sewerage lines and establishing disposal stations to enhance sanitation.
  2. Constructing storm water drains to mitigate flooding risks.
  3. Developing parks and installing streetlights to foster community spaces and safety.
  4. Building wastewater treatment plants to promote environmental conservation.

These projects aim to create a more resilient and well-equipped urban infrastructure, benefiting residents across the district.

Land-Use Conversions to Boost Commercial Activities

In a bid to stimulate economic growth, the District Planning and Design Committee, presided over by the Deputy Commissioner, approved six out of nine land-use conversion cases. This strategic decision is intended to facilitate commercial activities and attract investment to the region.

Officials and business owners were cautioned to adhere strictly to legal requirements, with the administration emphasizing rigorous scrutiny before issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs). This measure aims to prevent future complications and ensure that development proceeds in a regulated and sustainable manner.

The collective efforts of the Vehari district administration reflect a proactive approach to governance, combining infrastructure development, regulatory enforcement, and economic promotion to drive progress and enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
