The Islamabad Capital Territory's Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has reported a highly productive year for 2025, marked by significant revenue generation and strict enforcement of vehicle regulations. The department's annual performance report reveals a robust system in place for citizen services and compliance.
Record Revenue and Vehicle Registrations
According to the official report, the department successfully registered a total of 137,259 vehicles within the federal capital during the calendar year 2025. This registration drive contributed massively to the national exchequer, with collections under the token tax head surpassing an impressive Rs 22 billion. This figure underscores the growing number of vehicles in the city and the department's efficient revenue collection mechanism.
Stringent Actions Against Violations
Alongside its registration services, the Excise Department maintained a strict stance against traffic regulation violations. The report details that in various targeted operations, authorities imposed fines on 4,648 vehicles for using prohibited tinted windows, with the total penalties exceeding Rs 50 million.
Furthermore, the crackdown extended to vehicles with non-standard number plates. In 2025 alone, 2,063 vehicles were fined a sum of Rs 20 million for this infraction. An additional 53 vehicles faced penalties amounting to Rs 83 lakh for the unauthorized use of illegal lights on their vehicles.
Future Plans and Digital Initiatives
Director General of the Excise Department, Irfan Memon, affirmed that the campaign against non-standard plates and tinted windows will continue without any discrimination. He also announced a full-scale crackdown against the agent mafia operating outside the Excise Department's premises to ensure a transparent process for citizens.
Memon emphasized that the department is committed to providing all facilities to the public in a timely and authentic manner. Highlighting a move towards digital governance, he stated, “All facilities, from vehicle registration to token tax payment, are also being provided online.” This initiative aims to reduce physical queues and enhance convenience for residents of Islamabad.
