Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has taken a firm stand against transporters who are compromising citizen safety. He has issued clear directives for the registration of criminal cases against anyone found using fake fitness certificates. The minister revealed that some transporters are procuring these fraudulent documents to avoid the mandatory physical inspection of their vehicles, a practice he termed a serious violation of the law.
"No one will be allowed to compromise the lives of citizens," Mr. Memon stated emphatically. He emphasized that using a fake fitness certificate is not just an illegal act but a grave offence that poses a direct risk to public safety. To ensure accountability, the minister has instructed the secretary of the Provincial Transport Authority (PTA) to submit a detailed report on the action taken within three days. Furthermore, he has ordered the cancellation of route permits for any vehicle involved in this dangerous practice.
Karachi Police Announces Parallel Crackdown on Number Plates
In a related move to enhance road safety and law enforcement, the Karachi police have announced a separate, citywide crackdown targeting vehicles with illegal registration plates. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi Javed Alam Odho stated that the operation will commence on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The police action will specifically target vehicles displaying fancy, fake, concealed, or altered number plates. These tactics are often used by motorists to evade traffic penalties and fines. AIGP Odho made this announcement during a press conference at the Karachi Police Office. He was accompanied by key officials including Chief Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Zubair Habib, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and Director Excise and Motor Registration Shabana Baloch, indicating a coordinated multi-departmental effort.
