Traffic police in Lahore have uncovered a surprising case involving a man allegedly connected to more than 1,700 registered vehicles and millions of rupees in unpaid e-challan fines. The matter came to light during a routine checking operation in Muslim Town, where traffic wardens stopped a motorcycle and examined its registration details.
During verification, officials discovered that the vehicle's owner, Muhammad Jamshed, had an unusually high number of vehicles registered under his name. According to traffic police, further investigation revealed that as many as 1,743 motorcycles, rickshaws and other vehicles were registered to Muhammad Jamshed.
Officials also found 2,295 pending e-challans associated with his name, carrying total fines of Rs2.825 million. Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that having such a large number of vehicles registered under one person's name is highly unusual and requires a thorough inquiry.
Police said initial findings indicate that Muhammad Jamshed is involved in the business of selling motorcycles, rickshaws and other vehicles on instalments, which may be the reason behind the large number of registrations. Authorities have approached the Safe Cities Authority, Excise Department and other relevant institutions for further verification to determine whether any rules or regulations were violated.
