Postecoglou joins Al-Nassr, links up with Ronaldo

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has signed a two-year contract with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, where he will reunite with star forward Cristiano Ronaldo, the club announced on Friday.

Postecoglou's appointment announced

Al-Nassr confirmed the appointment via social media, posting: "It's official: Mr. Ange Postecoglou is the new head coach of @AlNassrFC. He signed a contract for two seasons. Welcome, Gaffer!" The club followed up with a statement describing the move as "a new chapter" and wishing success to Postecoglou and his staff.

Coaching journey and recent struggles

The 60-year-old Greek-Australian coach has been out of work since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in October after just 39 days and eight matches in charge. His brief tenure at Forest was widely regarded as a disaster. Prior to that, Postecoglou had led Tottenham to a Europa League title in 2025, ending a 17-year trophy drought for the club, but a poor Premier League campaign led to his dismissal.

Postecoglou began his coaching career in Melbourne before taking charge of the Australian national team, the Socceroos, in 2013. He guided Australia to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and left the role in 2017. After a stint in Japan, he spent two successful years at Celtic, winning domestic trophies, before moving to Tottenham in 2023.

Reuniting with Ronaldo

At Al-Nassr, Postecoglou will work with 41-year-old Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined the Saudi club in 2023. Ronaldo has been a key figure for Al-Nassr, helping them secure the league title. The partnership between the experienced coach and the legendary striker will be closely watched.
