PFF Hosts Ramzan Football Festival to Mark AFC Women's Football Day in Islamabad
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) celebrated the AFC Women's Football Day in conjunction with International Women's Day by organizing the 'Women in Play: Ramzan Football Festival' at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Sunday. This event featured a non-competitive five-a-side tournament designed to enhance visibility and inspire more girls and women to engage with football, emphasizing the PFF's ongoing commitment to fostering female participation in the sport throughout the year.
Tournament Highlights and Award Winners
A total of five clubs participated in the festival, including Legacy, Strikers, Smurfs, Highlanders, and Infinite, showcasing their skills in a spirited celebration of women's empowerment. Shanzeh Khan of Legacy was honored as the best player, Asra of Strikers emerged as the top-scorer, and Aleena Bilal of Smurfs Jr received the best goalkeeper award. The event attracted numerous current and former players, reinforcing the message that women will play a crucial role in shaping the future of football in Pakistan.
Leadership Commitments to Women's Football
PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani highlighted the federation's dedication to advancing women's football, stating, "As we celebrate the continued growth of women's football and women in football in the country, the PFF reaffirms its commitment to continue working on increasing participation of women in the sport." He noted a historic milestone, with the women's national team set to compete in the FIFA Series in Côte d'Ivoire next month, marking Pakistan's first participation in a FIFA event. Gilani added, "The PFF continues to explore further opportunities for its women's teams as well as building an ecosystem that ensures women's football flourishes in the country."

PFF Director of Women's Football Mejzgaan Orakzai, a former national team player, emphasized her mission to boost women's involvement both on and off the pitch. She said, "With women embracing key roles in the world game, I strongly feel Pakistan should not be left behind. As we mark the AFC Women's Football Day, I pledge to create more inclusive environments that ensure women continue to shape the future of football in Pakistan." This event underscores the PFF's efforts to promote gender equality and expand opportunities in football across the nation.
