Jon Rahm Secures Commanding Victory at LIV Golf Mexico City
In a display of sheer dominance, Jon Rahm captured the LIV Golf Mexico City 2026 individual title with a resounding six-shot victory at Club de Golf Chapultepec. The Legion XIII captain not only claimed his fourth individual win since joining LIV Golf but also propelled his team to a decisive nine-shot triumph in the team competition.
Rahm's Masterful Final Round Performance
Rahm entered Sunday's final round with a two-stroke lead and immediately set about extending it with a spectacular four-hole stretch that included three birdies and a tap-in eagle. His aggressive approach resulted in a bogey-free seven-under 64, the lowest score of the final round, finishing at 21-under for the tournament.
The Spanish star's victory margin represents the most decisive of his four individual LIV Golf wins, coming just one week after a disappointing tie for 38th at the Masters Tournament. "A little bit of disbelief," Rahm admitted after his victory. "If you would have told me last week on Thursday afternoon that I'd be winning by a six-shot margin this week, I would not have believed you because of how bad I played."
Key Moments That Sealed the Victory
Rahm's Sunday charge began with precision driving that saw him reach the green on both the 290-meter par-four second hole and the 356-meter par-four third hole. His brilliant tee shot on the third finished inside one meter for eagle, setting the tone for his dominant performance.
Despite a strong challenge from Fireballs GC's David Puig, who briefly cut Rahm's lead to three shots, the Legion XIII captain responded with crucial shots when needed most. A key par save at the 10th hole, where Rahm rolled in a 4.5-meter putt after a wayward drive, proved particularly significant.
"That putt on the 10th hole was massive," Rahm emphasized. "It's just a moment that the scorecard doesn't show. That six-shot lead could have been three fast and maybe one or two coming down the stretch."
Legion XIII Claims Team Honors
While Rahm dominated individually, his Legion XIII team secured their ninth regular season victory, tying them with Crushers GC for the most team wins in LIV Golf history. The team entered the final round with a commanding lead and maintained their advantage despite a strong challenge from the surging Fireballs.
Rahm's performance helped him become LIV Golf's winningest player across all competitions with 16 different trophies, putting him one ahead of Crushers GC's Bryson DeChambeau despite playing two fewer seasons.
Competitive Field and Future Implications
The final leaderboard featured an all-Spanish podium with Rahm joined by fellow countrymen David Puig and Josele Ballester of Fireballs GC. Rahm acknowledged the challenge posed by these young stars, noting, "Seeing those two names up there, two friends, makes me want to beat them even more, but also be cautious because I know exactly what they're capable of."
With this victory, Rahm has now recorded two wins, three solo second-place finishes, and a solo fifth in the first six tournaments of the season, positioning him strongly for a potential third consecutive individual championship.
The LIV Golf Mexico City event showcased Rahm's ability to bounce back from adversity and dominate a world-class field, reinforcing his status as one of golf's premier competitors in the LIV Golf league.
