Attock Intensifies Crackdown on Child and Bonded Labor

The district administration of Attock, in collaboration with the Labor and Human Resources Department, has intensified its campaign to eradicate child and bonded labor across the district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

District Vigilance Committee Meeting

Presiding over the monthly meeting of the District Vigilance Committee (DVC), Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Attock Anil Saeed stated that the government is taking vigorous steps to ensure strict enforcement of labor laws and protect the rights and safety of all workers. The meeting reviewed progress on eliminating illegal labor practices and enhancing workplace safety.

Assistant Director Labor and Human Resources Adnan Saleem briefed the committee, reporting that enforcement actions have been ramped up over the past month. “During the last month, five FIRs were registered against the owners of five institutions for violating child labor laws,” Saleem told the meeting. He added that regular inspections are now underway across industrial and commercial units to monitor compliance with health, safety, and other labor regulations.

Directives for Strict Enforcement

The DVC also reviewed measures to prevent workplace accidents, timely registration of workers under social security, and other pending labor-related issues. ADCG Anil Saeed issued clear directives to the Labor Department during the meeting. “Violations of child labor, bonded labor, and health and safety laws should not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said. “The health, safety, and welfare of workers must be ensured at all costs, and strict action should be taken against any individual or institution found guilty of violations.”

The ADC-G emphasized that protecting children from exploitative work and securing safe working conditions remain top administrative priorities in Attock.

Stakeholder Participation

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from labor, welfare, and industry sectors. Those in attendance included the District Officer Child Protection, representatives of the Welfare Bureau, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Workers Federation Munir Hussain Butt, a Social Security representative, President of the Bricklayers Union Chaudhry Ghazanfar Ali, HR Manager Taxila Cotton Mills Muhammad Azeem Hashmi, and other relevant officers.

Officials said the participation of worker unions and factory management reflects a coordinated approach to eliminating illegal labor practices and promoting a safer, more lawful work environment in the district.
