LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated on Monday that wind power holds immense potential as a sustainable and long-term solution for electricity generation. In her message on Global Wind Day, the CM reiterated the provincial government’s resolve to promote renewable and non-conventional sources of energy.
The CM emphasized that the energy potential of wind should be fully harnessed to meet growing demand in an environmentally sustainable manner. She added that wind energy could serve as a permanent asset in the province’s future energy mix.
Maryam Nawaz noted that Punjab, particularly the Thal region, offers vast opportunities for wind energy projects. These initiatives could play a significant role in strengthening the province’s energy security through indigenous and clean resources.
She remarked that Global Wind Day serves as an important reminder to move beyond traditional energy sources and adopt innovative, clean, and renewable solutions to address future energy challenges.
The CM said the Punjab government would explore wind power generation opportunities through public-private partnership models. This approach aims to ensure efficient utilization of available resources and encourage investment in the sector.
She added that the government is committed to providing a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations by promoting sustainable energy initiatives. The purpose of observing Global Wind Day, she explained, is to raise public awareness about the limitless potential of wind energy and its role in advancing the global renewable energy agenda.
Wind-generated electricity is crucial for reducing carbon emissions, protecting the environment, and mitigating the impacts of climate change, she concluded.
