The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting hot and humid weather conditions across most districts of Sindh province over the next 48 hours. According to the official advisory, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 40°C and 45°C in several areas, with humidity levels making the heat feel more intense.
Temperature and Humidity Details
The PMD report indicates that cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana will experience maximum temperatures around 43°C to 45°C. Coastal areas like Karachi may see slightly lower temperatures but higher humidity, leading to a heat index that could exceed 50°C. The Met office has warned that the combination of heat and humidity could cause discomfort and heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
Inland districts such as Dadu, Nawabshah, and Mirpurkhas are likely to record the highest temperatures, with the mercury potentially touching 46°C in some spots. The PMD attributed this weather pattern to a persistent low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, which is drawing moist air into the region while the sun remains strong.
Impact on Daily Life and Precautions
The hot and humid spell is expected to disrupt daily routines, with authorities advising residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Sindh Health Department has issued guidelines for preventing heatstroke, including staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding strenuous activities. Hospitals have been put on alert to handle potential heat-related emergencies.
Farmers in the region have been cautioned about the impact on crops, particularly vegetables and fruits, which may suffer from heat stress. The PMD has also warned of possible dust storms in some parts of the province due to the unstable atmospheric conditions.
Long-term Forecast and Advisory
The Met department expects the hot and humid conditions to persist for at least three to four days before a slight relief arrives in the form of sea breezes along the coast. However, inland areas may continue to experience high temperatures for the remainder of the week. The PMD has advised the public to follow weather updates regularly and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
