Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed Deputy Commissioners to sustain the campaign against encroachments that impede traffic flow in their respective districts, ensuring that roads and footpaths remain clear. He emphasized that roadside hotels should be removed with due diligence and legal action taken against those involved.
Review of Anti-Encroachment Reports
The Commissioner reviewed reports submitted by Deputy Commissioners on price control of essential commodities, encroachment removal, and other civic improvement activities. According to a handout from the Commissioner’s Office, Assistant Commissioner SITE Muhammad Yousuf conducted a full-scale operation to remove encroachments established in Sher Shah since the commencement of the Maripur Road Lyari Expressway.
Major Encroachments Dismantled
The report to the Commissioner highlighted two major permanent encroachments. An illegal wood market under the bridge was completely demolished and removed. Additionally, a construction company had illegally occupied government land, erecting a cattle shed and other unauthorized structures, all of which were demolished.
The operation also cleared a large illegal parking lot that had been systematically established over a wide area. According to the Assistant Commissioner, this parking lot was a significant traffic hazard. Approximately 50 to 80 illegally parked vehicles, including both private and commercial vehicles, were removed from the area. The Anti-Encroachment Force, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and local police supported the operation.
Actions in North Nazimabad and Bin Qasim
Assistant Commissioner North Nazimabad Naimat Khan removed encroachments on footpaths and roadside hotels in North Nazimabad. He seized all chairs and tables that were being used illegally by roadside hotels.
