LPG Sold at Up to Rs440/kg in Muzaffargarh Against Official Rs241/kg, Residents Allege
LPG Sold at Up to Rs440/kg in Muzaffargarh, Residents Allege

Residents of Muzaffargarh have alleged that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is being sold at prices significantly higher than officially notified rates across the district, adding to consumers' financial burden. According to local residents, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) fixed the official LPG price at Rs241.43 per kg for 2026, while the district administration set a maximum retail price of Rs310 per kg. However, citizens claim LPG is being sold in Muzaffargarh city and surrounding areas for between Rs380 and Rs440 per kg.

Price Disparity Hurts Low-Income Families

Residents say the substantial gap between official and market prices is placing severe financial pressure on households, particularly low-income families. They also allege that official price lists are missing from many LPG outlets, allowing retailers to charge arbitrary prices. Some consumers further claim that when they protest or question the higher prices, they are reportedly told, “Be thankful that gas is available. If you complain too much, we will stop selling it altogether.”

Appeals to Authorities for Action

Citizens have urged Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh, Usman Tahir Jappa, to ensure strict enforcement of official LPG prices, activate price control magistrates, direct all LPG dealers to prominently display official price lists, and take impartial legal action against those allegedly charging excessive prices. They have also appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the situation, strengthen the price control mechanism, and order strict action against those allegedly involved in profiteering to provide immediate relief to the public.
