Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the newly constructed Hammad Awan Shaheed Park in UC-13, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Saddar Town, on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by Parliamentary Leader in the City Council and Area Chairman Karamullah Waqasi, Vice Chairman Waseem, elected local government representatives, officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and a large number of local residents and dignitaries.
Mayor's Vision for Green Spaces
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Wahab said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is committed to providing modern public amenities, promoting a greener environment, and developing quality recreational facilities across the city. He stated that the newly developed park in Shireen Jinnah Colony is another step towards fulfilling that vision. The mayor also announced that two major development projects in Karachi would be completed within the next ten days, while the pace of development work across the city would further accelerate during the current year.
Transformation from Garbage Dump to Park
The mayor highlighted that the site where the park now stands was previously a garbage dumping ground and a gathering place for drug addicts, creating serious difficulties for local residents. KMC has completely transformed the area into a modern green belt and a beautifully landscaped public park equipped with walking tracks, children’s play facilities, seating arrangements, and other civic amenities, providing a safe and healthy recreational environment for women, children, and senior citizens.
Other Development Initiatives
In a related development, a Rs570 million grant has been approved for the restoration of infrastructure in small industrial estates. The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Hyderabad also reported strong operational performance recently.
