NDMA Issues Heavy Rain and Flood Alert for July 1-4

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert warning of heavy rainfall and potential flooding across Pakistan from July 1 to 4, 2026. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) reported that an active monsoon system combined with western weather disturbances is expected to intensify rainfall, leading to a rapid rise in water levels in hill torrents and seasonal streams.

Flood Risk in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa identified as vulnerable include Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Torghar, and Kohistan. The authority warned that flash floods could occur in these areas.

Punjab Districts on Alert

In Punjab, low-lying areas and rain-fed channels are at risk. Affected districts include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin. Heavy downpours could inundate urban low-lying areas and disrupt traffic.

Balochistan and Other Regions

Localized flash floods may affect Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, and Loralai in Balochistan. Mountainous areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan remain vulnerable to overflowing streams due to persistent rainfall.

Potential Infrastructure Damage

The NDMA cautioned that heavy rains could damage roads, bridges, irrigation networks, and other public infrastructure. All relevant departments have been instructed to strengthen preparedness by ensuring efficient drainage systems, deploying emergency equipment, and maintaining continuous monitoring of rivers and glacial lakes.

Public Safety Advisories

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas, stay away from rivers and streams during heavy rain, and follow official safety advisories. The NDMA recommends using the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for the latest updates.
