Karachi's Nipa hydrant on University Road was sealed on Wednesday after Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reportedly encountered severe traffic congestion near Nipa Chowrangi while travelling to NED University. The incident prompted authorities to move swiftly to ease traffic flow in the area.
Chief Minister's Displeasure
According to sources, the chief minister expressed displeasure over the traffic jam and directed the Karachi commissioner to improve traffic management in the area. The sources said a large number of water tankers queued outside the Nipa hydrant were obstructing traffic on University Road when the chief minister's convoy passed through.
Immediate Action Taken
Soon after the chief minister's directive, the assistant commissioner of Gulshan-e-Iqbal sealed the hydrant and had the tankers removed from the main road. This resulted in a noticeable improvement in traffic flow, according to officials.
Impact on Commuters
The sealing of the hydrant is expected to reduce congestion on University Road, a major artery in Karachi. Commuters had long complained about delays caused by water tankers lining up at the hydrant. The move has been welcomed by local residents and daily travellers.
