The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) enforcement teams, acting on directives from Director General Syed Musa Raza, conducted operations in Shalimar Town, Jail Road, and Ferozepur Road in Lahore to ensure the provision of safe and quality food.
Three Businesses Sealed and Fined
During the operation, three food businesses were sealed, one was heavily fined, and equipment including two freezers, a fryer, and a preparation table were confiscated. The sealed outlets included a kulfi production unit in Shalimar Town, a hospital cafeteria on Jail Road, and a renowned restaurant on Ferozepur Road for serious violations of food safety regulations.
Prohibited China Salt and Expired Food Discarded
Large quantities of prohibited China salt and expired food items were discarded during the operation. The teams found that the businesses were operating in violation of the Pure Food Regulations. Prohibited China salt was being used in the preparation of various food products. Poor sanitation arrangements, fungus-infested walls, and an unhygienic environment were also observed during the inspections.
DG PFA Comments on Violations
DG PFA Syed Musa Raza stated that the teams found a heavy presence of insects, flies, and spider webs in the processing areas. Mandatory records, including employees’ medical certificates, food safety training certificates, and oil replacement logs, were also unavailable.
He said that on the directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, the Authority is working round the clock to ensure the provision of safe and wholesome food across the province. He emphasized that strict enforcement operations will continue against food businesses violating food safety laws.
