The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) enforcement teams, acting on the directives of Director General Syed Musa Raza, conducted targeted operations in Lahore's Raiwind Road, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, and Paragon City. During the crackdown, a renowned nihari outlet, a fast food restaurant, and a confectionery unit were sealed for violating food safety laws. Additionally, fines totaling Rs150,000 were imposed on three food businesses for non-compliance.
Inspections Reveal Severe Violations
Food safety teams inspected five food units and discovered that loose and substandard spices were being used in the preparation of nihari and other food items. The PFA DG stated that poor hygiene conditions, including heavy insect infestation and foul-smelling kitchen environments, were observed during the inspections. He further noted that dairy products and meat were being stored together in dirty, foul-smelling, and fungus-infected freezers.
Missing Labels and Unhygienic Practices
Expiry and production dates were absent on both raw and prepared food items. Naswar consumption and smoking were observed in processing areas, while unfiltered water was also being used in food preparation. These practices pose serious health risks to consumers.
Continuous Operations to Protect Public Health
Syed Musa Raza emphasized that continuous operations are underway day and night to safeguard public health. He warned that no leniency would be shown to those endangering consumers’ health. The PFA is also planning a province-wide crackdown on professional beggars in the near future.
