The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday forecast rain-windstorms and thundershowers in the upper parts of the country during the weekend. According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave are expected to influence weather conditions starting Saturday, July 10.
Details of the Weather Forecast
Rain-windstorms and thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, are likely in Kashmir from the night of July 10 to July 13, with occasional gaps. The PMD advised relevant authorities to remain vigilant as the weather system could cause localized flooding and disruption in vulnerable areas.
Monsoon Preparedness Meeting
Meanwhile, the Emergency Response Committee (ERC), convened by the Prime Minister, reviewed and reinforced provincial and district level preparedness for Monsoon 2026. The meeting was held on Friday at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters in Islamabad, with participation via video link from provincial officials.
Chaired remotely by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal, the meeting heard detailed briefings from provincial chief secretaries and disaster management officials. The discussions focused on contingency planning, resource deployment, and public awareness campaigns to mitigate the impact of the monsoon season.
Key Decisions and Next Steps
The ERC emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among federal and provincial agencies. Authorities were directed to ensure that emergency response mechanisms are fully operational and that early warning systems are effectively communicated to the public. The committee also stressed the importance of community-level preparedness to reduce risks from potential flooding and landslides.
